Tuesday, Jan 13 - 5:30p to 7:30p - On Tuesday, January 13 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Vista Ridge High School,6888 Black Forest Rd., the 2nd annual Showcase of Schools will take place. This event is free and open to the public and will provide parents an opportunity to find out about all of the educational options in District 49. With nine elementary schools, four choices for middle school education, seven high school options, and four charter schools, District 49 offers educational opportunities for every type of learner. D49 offers International Baccalaureate (IB) programs at the elementary, middle and high school level, as well as many focused education programs including Core Knowledge, School of Technology, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Expeditionary Learning.
“The rapid growth of the District and surrounding communities help make D49 an outstanding choice for education regardless of where you live,” stated Eric Paugh, D49 chief academic officer. “Program options, academic enhancements and educational choices will only continue to expand as our district grows.”
During the Showcase of Schools, parents can visit with all of the D49 schools as they showcase their programs, answer questions, and provide information about how to make the best educational choices for their child/children. The “trade show” format of the event allows attendees to come and go as they please, making it easy to attend for even the busiest parents.
For the first time ever, the district will offer the opportunity to apply for a spot in any d49 school as long as parents apply during the open choice window january 5 through march 6, 2009. Applications will be available on site at the Showcase of Schools and a School Support Team can assist with any questions. There are limited openings for School of Choice students, so it is important to apply as early as possible.
